Chidorigafuchi Boat Moat
Chidorigafuchi, Imperial Palace north moat

A leafy moat below the Imperial Palace where you rent a rowboat and, in spring, drift beneath a ceiling of cherry blossoms that drop petals onto the oars.
Tip In late March/early April, get in the boat-rental queue before it opens or the wait runs over an hour — the petals raining onto the water are worth it. Off-season, the moat is a calm, uncrowded paddle with the palace stone walls as backdrop and almost no tourists. Pair it with a walk along the green Imperial Palace running route afterward.
